Introduction to Spoon Carving
On this afternoon course you will discover the joys of working with freshly cut (‘green’) wood, using simple hand tools. You'll practise some techniques by crafting a simple butter spreader, and then move onto the more complex spoon, going away with new skills and two hand carved utensils to be treasured!
We will cover:

the properties of green wood and importance of wood selection

tools and tool maintenance

the importance of grain direction

safe and effective techniques with a straight knife and a hook knife

spoon design
This course runs in the 600 year old 'Round Tower', along the historic seafront of Old Portsmouth.

All materials and tools provided. Suitable for ages 18+. Social distancing measures will be in place, with a set of tools provided for each person, and ample space between participants in a well-ventilated environment.
